I am reminded of Kant's categorical imperative, in the way that refusing to lie to an axe murderer when they ask you the whereabouts of the person the person they want to kill sounds super dumb, but if you were not the sort of super honest person who answers truthfully to that sort of thing then the murderer wouldn't bother asking you and you'd never find yourself in that situation in the first place.

On the more practical side, it reminds me of people who give advice about how to deal with bullies, which never works because if you were the sort of person who could put that advice into practice the bully would realize that and not bully you in the first place.
